Uttarakhand was formed on the 9th November 2000 as the 27th State of India, when it was carved out of northern Uttar Pradesh. Located at the foothills of the Himalayan mountain ranges, it is largely a hilly State, having international boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east. On its north-west lies Himachal Pradesh, while on the south is Uttar Pradesh. It is rich in natural resources especially water and forests with many glaciers, rivers, dense forests and snow-clad mountain peaks.
Uttarakhand has done a pioneering work on SDGs through CPPGG in partnership with UNDP and has already articulated its SDG Vision 2030. 2023 is a mid-point year for achieving the 2030 goals, and it gives us an opportunity to revisit our VISION for 2030 and recalibrate our plans for 2047 considering the vastly changed landscape due to Covid 19 and its implications on all dimensions of life and governance.
This calls for re-defining its State Vision with focus on a vision plan for a 'Future ready Uttarakhand’. This will entail engaging with all stakeholders and developing a more robust and evolved Vision document for the state of Uttarakhand that targets the new challenges and sets pragmatic ambitions for not only government departments but also for academia, industry, youth, etc.
